The GAP fire started a week ago on Tuesday July 1st. It was really scary. You could see the fire burning on the hillside from our backyard. I kept telling people there was a "fire up there" and that it was "yucky outside". It came close, but we never had to evacuate. Across the street is a golf course, so that helped. I had to play indoors a lot this past week, because the ash & smoke were so thick. You can see how it made the sky a strange color and the sun really orange. It gave me a bad cough and made it hard to sleep. One day Nana came and picked me up and took me downtown to her house, just so I could breathe some fresher air. Then I also went to the beach with Mommy & Daddy and we met Uncle Chris, Aunt Stephanie and Cousin Madisen there. It is much better around here now, so it's safer to go outside. The fire isn't out yet, but it's getting there. If you want to say thank you to our firefighters, go to: http://www.thanksgapfireresponders.com/
Today Mommy & I made a sign to hang up for the firefighters. There are over 1,000 firefighters here working on this fire. They are doing a great job protecting houses. It was my first time finger painting. I actually used my feet more than my fingers though. It was fun to squish the paint around in my toes.
